Break free from the monotony

Routine Feat is a free adventure video game wherein you must try to shake up your everyday routine. Developed by sad3d, this 3D atmospheric indie game has you wearing the shoes of a bored office worker who wants more out of life. It’s played in a first-person POV and features a highly-interactive world that really tells the story quite well. This game is recommended for anyone who likes explorative games.

Take your time

Routine Feat is an exploration game, despite the limitations of where your feet can take you. As a dreamer, you wish to get away from the monotony of your daily life. Thus, one day you decide to finally start working on that book you wanted to publish. Alongside that, you must work, eat, and sleep—you can freely do whatever in any order as long as you unlock the next day by finishing work and sleeping.

The controls are simple enough: WASD for movement, E for interaction, left-click to pick up items, right-click to drop them, and the mouse wheel to zoom in and out—which you’ll use to elevate objects. There are additional controls not shown in-game, though: F1 to show and hide Help, F2 to toggle the crosshair, F3 to enable Flight Mode, F5 and F6 to adjust the time speed, F7 and F8 to adjust the mouse sensitivity, and F9 to take screenshots.

You can interact with almost any item—you can drag them around if your crosshair turned into a circle and you can interact with them further if “E” displays on the screen. With this, you can also take your time in exploring the world, as the game’s time doesn’t really flow too fast unless you set it that way. It can be a bit lonely, however, as there are no NPCs around to interact with.

Alone with your thoughts

Routine Feat is pretty much a philosophical walking simulator with its beautiful 3D graphics—most especially during the dream sequences. There’s so much you can do but once you’ve explored around, the repeating routine starts to take a toll. This is exactly what the game is talking about and you’re encouraged to find ways to shake things up. While the lack of an in-game settings menu is annoying, the game is still playable without knowing the additional controls.
