Try to write that book

Routine Feat is a free adventure video game wherein you must break away from the monotony of everyday life. Developed by sad3d, this 3D indie game is an atmospheric exploration game, where you play as an ordinary office worker who dreams of escaping the cycle of boring work by trying to write a book. There are a lot of interactions you can do in the game but it’s really more of a philosophical walking simulator.

A different kind of adventure

Routine Feat tells the story of someone who wishes to achieve more out of life. Playing in the first-person perspective, you find yourself planning to finally write that book you wanted to start for ages. You still have to go to work, eat, and sleep, however. Fortunately, the game doesn’t force you to try and juggle these tasks with limited time—you’re free to do whatever, as long as you get to continue the story the next day.

From the start, you’re introduced to a black screen explaining your goal. It can be a bit confusing on how to proceed, as you actually have to click on the two sentences in blue: continue on with the game or quit to the main menu. The controls are simple enough, though. E is for interacting with objects, and you left-click them to pick them up. Your cursor will turn into a circle to indicate that you can use them.

Nearly every item can be interacted with and the game doesn’t punish you for doing your routine out of order—although you can only advance the day by taking the bus and finishing your work. The real struggle here is how alone you can feel as you repeat your tasks, with no NPCs around. The ambient noise suggests otherwise but everything still makes you feel alone, especially with all of the poetic books you can read.

Interesting take on looping gameplay

Routine Feat is a beautiful game with its 3D graphics. It’s a mixture of simple 3D models and a pixelated art style. It’s also pretty fun how almost anything can be moved around—although the actions you can do to them are still limited. The lack of an in-game settings menu also means that your mouse sensitivity may make interaction hard. You will need to check the game’s official page to check the additional controls.
